Jangling Space Safeguarding Policy

Introduction: Jangling Space is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants involved in our cooperative workshop. This safeguarding policy outlines our commitment to preventing harm, promoting dignity, and complying with relevant legislation, particularly the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.

Definition of Vulnerable Adults: Vulnerable adults are individuals who, due to their personal circumstances, may be at increased risk of harm or exploitation. This may include, but is not limited to, refugees, individuals with disabilities, those experiencing mental health challenges, and others facing socio-economic vulnerabilities.

Key Principles:

  • Dignity and Respect: All participants will be treated with dignity and respect, recognizing the diversity of their backgrounds, experiences, and identities.

  • Equality and Inclusion: Jangling Space is committed to providing equal opportunities for all participants, ensuring that the workshop is inclusive and accessible.

  • Legislative Compliance: We adhere to the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 and other relevant legislation to safeguard vulnerable adults.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

  • Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO): Lina Nass has been appointed as the DSO responsible for implementing and overseeing the safeguarding policy, ensuring compliance with the Adult Support and Protection Act.

  • Training: All staff and volunteers regularly undergo relevant safeguarding training, incorporating the principles of the Adult Support and Protection Act, to ensure awareness of signs of abuse, reporting procedures, and appropriate responses.

Prevention:

  • Risk Assessment: Risk assessments are conducted annually to identify and address potential risks to participants, taking into consideration the specific vulnerabilities of refugee and other vulnerable adult populations.

  • Code of Conduct: Jangling Space has a clear code of conduct, accepted by all participants, outlining expected behaviours and standards for all participants, staff, and volunteers.

Reporting and Responding:

  • Reporting Concerns: Any concerns or suspicions regarding the well-being or safety of a participant will be reported to the DSO immediately, in accordance with the Adult Support and Protection Act.

  • Confidentiality: Information relating to safeguarding concerns will be treated confidentially, shared only with those who need to know to ensure the safety and well-being of the individual.

Review and Monitoring: This policy will be reviewed annually and updated to reflect changes in legislation, the workshop's activities, or best practices. Feedback from participants will be sought to inform continuous improvement.

Conclusion: Jangling Space is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all participants while adhering to the principles of the Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
